Are you tired of reading and listening to information overload when it comes to your health?
Dr. Bruce Eichelberger, OMD of Reno Alternative Medicine tells us it is as simple as listening to our body because it is the one thing that can give you the right and wrong signals about your health.
People interested in health (isn’t that all of us?) have an amazing amount of information available. The internet, health newsletters and the media flood our brains with data. And some of it may even be worthwhile.
But when it comes to your health, what you read is less useful. Why? Because you are a unique individual. That means you will have a unique response to any particular option.
I see this in my practice regularly. Some patients have extreme responses to even the most innocuous supplement. Some can take enormous amounts of practically anything. And even though there are ways to tell if someone is likely to be reactive, you can never tell until they actually take action.
You’ve seen this in your own experience. People follow the exact same diet with different results. People take the same supplements but only one of them sees benefit. I can tell you that it makes working with patients a constant challenge.
And I hear from patients about many of their doctors who take a “one size fits all” approach. I understand the desire to think that there is a magic bullet that works the same for everyone. But it is intellectually lazy to not notice that each person has unique responses. Such doctors should think about changing professions. Perhaps they’d do better as mechanics.
So if you can’t count on what you read, how do you get the right information? It’s simple. Listen to your body. That’s it.
Some of you might think that’s too simple. If so, consider this – human beings survived as a species for thousands of years without any medical knowledge. Along the way, their bodies learned how to adapt and survive on their own.
Then as culture evolved, there were different circumstances to adapt to. People were exposed to new stresses. But the change was gradual and we adapted. Bodies are very adaptive.
But these days change is happening at warp speed. The more unnatural exposures you have, the harder it is for your body to adapt. And you are exposed to many, many more unnatural things than ever.
To help you counter this, I am going to give you the best information you will ever get regarding health. Take it to heart.
Pay attention to your body’s response to everything.
Got it? In other words, rely on your body’s innate intelligence. It will tell you if what you are doing is helping you or not.
By everything I mean your response to the following:
- What you eat. This includes food, drink and supplements.
- What you do. This includes exercise, work, activity levels, etc.
- Your response to stress.
What do you look for? There are three categories in general:
- Your food cravings and appetite. Do your meals sustain you for many hours or are you hungry too soon?
- Your energy level. Is it better or worse? Is is smooth or jagged?
- Your mental and emotional well being. Are you clear and focused or not? Are you emotionally resilient?
If you can do the above, you will be far ahead of 99% of people in the world in your health. And you won’t have to rely on information from other sources to know this.
